China Shanghai Travel to Water Town Zhouzhuang

This ancient town is about an hour from the center of Shanghai by taxi and offers a glimpse into the China tour past (and perhaps into life outside of the big cities of China). We enjoyed a relaxing stroll along the shop lined waterways and then had a nice lunch on the water. Lots of shops and vendors. A beautiful area with lots to see.
Although it rained on and off when we visited, it was still a charming place to visit: small canals, picturesque arched bridges, and boatmen and women rowing the slow boats. We also took the electric power boat Shanghai tours with the guide pointing out expensive villas built along the lake, remanent of an old village, the treasure bowl passed down from a local luminary, named Shen Wanshan, in Ming dynasty, etc. Slow cooked pig feet, that melt in your mouth, was sold in so many stores, supposedly cooked in the recipe from that family.

Evening show with the theme of four seasons and subtitles in four different languages was very interesting as the stage and the audience were separated by more than twenty feet of water. Soon you realized its significance, as water and waterway were intimately woven into the life of the town. The finale was a lady, standing at the edge of a rowing boat, to threw a big red hydrangea-like ball to the China tours audience to pick a groom.to get on the stage.
Well, not really like Venice, but sort of and on a much smaller scale. This place is charming. There are many small shops, mainly souvenirs. There are also many restaurants, some with seating right Yangtze River cruises  along the canal. You can take a boat, that is paddled along by an oars person, a la a gondolier. It is very picturesque and worth the day trip from Shanghai.

Best Zhouzhuang Travel to Shanghai Tips

The great part about the "preserved" part of Zhouzhuang is that it's gated off to cars. I only went there to visit China tours for a day but I could have easily stayed one or two nights here just walking around and taking in the sites. Most buildings here are easily hundreds of years old--some of them opened to the public for viewing since some are the homes of old famous scholars or poets. It's truly a beautiful place to just take a stroll in.
The best experience I had in Zhouzhuang is to be able to drink some tranditional Chinese wines, rice wine and yellow wine, in a very old style Chinese bar. It matches all my imagines about the acient Yangtze River cruises style bar I have read in those old Chinese novels.

At the south of the Zhouzhuang water town near to the temple area, you can witness a huge bridge across the Shangri-la tour lake which surrounds the entire town of Zhouzhuang. There is a pavillion where you can take a rest and admire the scenery here.
At the southern end of the water town of Zhouzhuang lies a very beautiful temple with pavillions, lake and huge colourful gardens. You have to visit this place to truely experience the beauty, which is Shanghai tours typical of the classical scenery of this part of China which the Chinese people called "Jiang Nan" (which means south of the river i.e. the moghty Yangtze River).

Great Travel to Shanghai Shopping Experiences

My daughter and I had a brilliant day with our guide MJ who introduced us to the joys of shopping in shanghai. Her intimate knowledge, not only of the best shopping venues, but also of local customs, restaurants, and other sights to visit was invaluable to the success of our holiday. The big hits for us on the day were the fabric market and the pearl market. Instead of being confronted China tours with hundreds of tailoring vendors at the fabric market and not knowing where to begin, MJ was able to recommend well reputed tailors to us and we were thrilled with everything we had made from leather to silk to suits.( Best to take items you love to have copied if short for time and fittings).Again at the pearl market we were steered in the direction of vendors she had experience with who generally had good English. If dealing with other vendors and bargaining was required MJ did a superb job in mandarin with her bargaining on our behalf. We came away loaded with wonderful gifts of pearls of all descriptions, costume jewellery, scarves, art and other treasures for crazy prices.

The day was well coordinated with the driver and minibus being always on hand when we were ready to move from venue to venue and was well punctuated with a dumpling break and later a delicious Chinese lunch. We were enlightened along the way Yangtze River cruises with info about shanghai in general as well as where we were shopping next !
MJ availed herself to us as a reference for the time we were in shanghai and we did resort to calling her on a couple of occasions for advice and she was a great help. Her recommendations for further sightseeing and restaurants were fantastic and also helped take the angst out of where to start in such a big city with not a great deal of time.

She also provided us with good recommendations for eating out, both Chinese and western options.

So, my review is really positive and money well spent. In such an amazing, crazy city it's worth getting an insiders view and where to go and what to do. Do the tour as soon as you get to shanghai, take glasses and items of clothing with you that Shanghai tours you want copied and take lots of cash!! It's great fun!

My Best Shanghai Travel of Shopping

Our first stop was the Fabric Market, where the Shopping Tour had several choice vendors that met their qualifications. If i had China tours gone in by myself, i would have turned back. It would have been too overwhelming. Three floors with so many vendors. We had some silk and linen pieces made. We also bought a couple of fake Rolex watches which really resembled the real deal!

The next stop was the Silk Factory. There was a demonstration of the silk worms which was very interesting. I could have spent more time here!
We bought a couple of silk duvet inserts, pillow, silk pillow cases and silk pajamas/robes. The silk duvets were steal compared to the SmartSilk duvets costing 600.00. We bought the recommended weight and I am so pleased that I have asked MJ to purchase a few more and she will ship them to me. The quality of the silk pajamas and robes are beautiful. The polyester Natori nightgowns Yangtze River cruises feel like sandpaper to me now. I have not washed the pajamas yet so I cannot review how they launder. We went to a local shop where you could buy souvenir type gifts. the shop was nice but nothing tweaked our interest.Lunch was a a very nice Chinese style restaurant, the food was preordered by MJ and we had a wonderful lunch.Next we went to the flower market and lastly the pearl market. I purchased a strand of grey coin pearls and my daughter bought an inexpensive jade bracket, we were pleased with our purchases.I highly recommend that China tour you do this activity if you are in Shanghai. I am hoping to return in a couple of years and on my next trip, I will hire the Shopping Tour for a private tour to explore more of the city.

Well where do I start, first of all there were only 4 people on our full day shopping trip plus MJ our guide. From the moment we met MJ we knew we were going to have a fun filled day. MJs experience and tips on the shopping front set the scene. We had excellent tips on where to go and what bargains to look for. With only having 3 days in Shanghai, this was definitely the way to go, we even had time to get tailor made clothing and this was delivered to our hotel. The dumplings were a great treat and certainly much needed after a few hours of shopping. I thought my man would Shanghai tour not enjoy the day but he had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed it as much as I did. MJs advise on restaurants and local history was excellent. We will be back and look forward to going out with MJ again. A bug thank you MJ.

Shanghai Zoo Review-Shanghai Tour

can anyone help these elephants they seen to be hidden from general Shanghai tours view there situation gives me nightmares please can some authority look into this suffering x

This a place to visit if you have kids - and maybe also if they are not with you but you have some free time. If visited the ZOO during week day, it is an ideal place to relax from hectic Shanghai. And, as an extra, you will see a lot of interesting creatures. I am not specialist for wildlife but have seen a lot of cubs. Maybe Shanghai tour they are doing right things there in animal care..? Yes, ZOO is not as sterile as some others. Sometimes you have problems to find toilet. But generally, it is a nice place to spend 3-5 hours without stress. And a good value for price.

Shanghai tours

Shanghai Zoo itself is not as depressing as other reviewers have villainized it as. I think *any* zoo is "depressing" when you consider that these animals are locked in cages their whole lives, though admittedly some zoos actually research wild life China tours behavior or help endangered animals procreate. Shanghai Zoo is strictly for profit and is quite obviously not interested in the more humane aspects of zoology, but it is not quite the “animal prison” westerners make it out to be.

The grounds are gorgeous; a massive, sprawling park with lush glades, dense woodlands and reflective ponds; it’s a great place for a family picnic or to let your kids explore, and you’ll need a solid Yangtze River cruises  day to see it all. And be sure to go on a weekday to avoid the throngs of weekend visitors.

Tour to Old Street of China Shanghai

Head south down Renmin Lu, which soon turns into Zhonghua Lu. To your right, bamboo scaffolding wrapped in green canvas belies the fate and future of Luwan District, while to your left, stone archways with half chipped away dates lead into longtang dwellings. The further south you go, though, the more the construction gives way to the utilitarian boxes that sprouted up in fits of development between the 1950s to the 1980s. Before long, you're at Fuxing Dong Lu, a stretch wildly different from its more China tours frequented Central and Western incarnations. The intersection of Zhonghua Lu and Fuxing Dong Lu, adjacent to the stairs leading up to the overpass, contains a Junk Market with a truly bizarre array of, well, junk, from second-hand appliances to used clothing to a variety of creatively shaped if crudely made bongs.

Continue south on Zhonghua Lu for a few blocks, with eyes still trained to the right, and soon, over the tops of the red-tiled roofs of 1920s shikumen, you'll catch sight of flourishes more characteristic of Qing Dynasty constructions: gray tiles, stacked horizontally, and curling dragons' heads snorting carved smoke. Welcome to the Wenmiao Confucian Temple, which is most scenically entered the back way Yangtze River cruises by Menghua Jie, past old buildings emblazoned with faded declarations of "10,000 years to Comrade Mao!" (The main entrance, via Wenmiao Lu a block further south, is sanitized past the point of interest.) At the back gate of the temple sits one of two Wenmiao Book Markets. This one specializes in new, surplus books and magazines, stacked high and selling by the jin for a song. Ubiquitous signs loudly prohibit smoking in this, Shanghai's largest fire hazard. Cut south down a side street to Wenmiao Lu, lined by book vendors, and head to the Temple's main entrance.

Shanghai tours

The Wenmiao Temple is the only extant Confucian Temple in Shanghai. It originated during the Yuan Dynasty (AD 1271-1368) as the Zitong Clan Temple, but was reconstructed in its current form in 1855. Like the Yuyuan, it housed the Small Swords Society when they took over the city during the Taiping Uprising. The Kuixing Tower, standing 20 China tour meters high, once offered a panoramic view of the Old City. The temple was targeted by Red Guards during the Cultural Revolution, so many of its buildings and most of their contents are reproductions. The front courtyard of the temple houses another book market, this one a sprawling used book market; the pedantic Master Kong would be pleased. The offerings include many antique English books, as well as bargain copies of coffee tables on Shanghai and on China. Blow your book budget, then head into the quiet sanctuary of the ponds and gardens of the inner temple for a good read.

From Wenmiao, wander due east, either back along Fuxing Dong Lu or via an alleyway of your choice. Off Fuxing Lu, a stone's-throw east of its intersection with Henan Nan Lu, is Xiaotaoyuan Lu, home to the Xiaotaoyuan Mosque, Shanghai's most distinctive piece of Islamic architecture. Still an actively used mosque, its congregation is not comprised of minority groups like the Uighurs, but rather by Hui, or Chinese Muslims. Built in 1917, the ornately beautiful building is known for the four huge green globes adorning its roof. The architectural style is an interesting blend of Islamic, Western, and Chinese influences. Unfortunately, as the neighboring longtang buildings hedge it in very closely, it is difficult Shanghai tours to get a full view of building. It is not the oldest mosque in Shanghai; that distinction goes to the Fuyou Lu Mosque, hidden behind mobs of trinket vendors in the heart of Yuyuan, which was built in 1868 and is much more sinicized in design than the Western-influenced Xiaotaoyuan.

Travel to Shanghai Confucian Temple

During the Cultural Revolution 80% of the site was burnt. Volunteers and students managed to rebuild it. It is a very nice, relaxing and quiet complex in the middle of skyscrapers and noisy roads. A young China tours student came to me at the entry and she offered to be my guide. She was knowledgeable and her pronunciation good, so that at the end I gave her 20 CNY. Entry is 20. I didnt like the shop at the end and the girl that insisted a lot to make me buy something...
It's not a must, but I liked it.

I paid for a private tour of this place, which turned out to be a great idea. There were so many things I leaned that I would have missed out on by just wandering through the on my own. The tour staff are very well spoken on the history of the Yangtze River cruises temple and the cultural impact it had. Our guide also spoke excellent English.

Shanghai tours

This place was fantastic. Well worth the 5 yuan entrance fee. It was almost empty for both of us to roam the place freely, and take pictures. You are also given free incense to burn travel to Shangri-la inside the temple. Much better then the Jade Buddha Temple.

I used to live over in LaoXiMen and it was about 3 years before I even knew this place existed. That's one of the things that make our visits there so nice - no throngs of tourists spitting and dropping garbage on the floor! It's almost always quiet and I happily pay the modest door fee to get inside so I can read a book in peace and quiet. The temple is a lovely series of courtyards and beautiful Shanghai tour old traditional buildings with a small, but nicely maintained garden. If you're in the area, please stop in and enjoy the break from the outdoor street market just outside the gates.
